Why I Hate Vitamins

Why I Hate Vitamins

Let me tell you a secret. I hate taking vitamins. As someone who owns a supplements company, that’s quite a thing to admit.

So why did I start this company to begin with then? Because I believe in health. I believe very strongly actuallyBut I believe that healthy should be easy. I have found from my own experience that if healthy isn’t easy, most of the time we just won’t do it. I created this company with the goal of making healthy easy.

We started with offering our organic wheatgrass powder, which we personally take daily and our soon to be released organic spirulina powder.

But then we knew we had to solve the BIG problem.

My husband, Ari, and I attended the Natural Products Expo last week for one very distinct reason – to find a solution to The Vitamin Problem.

Now this expo had aisle after aisle after aisle of natural products and health food and supplements and I was on a mission. Because I don’t know if you’re like me but you may have a little one who is…

Chelsea at Natural Products Expo

When I was a kid, I used to take trips to the candy store with my friends. I loved the freedom at 12 years old with money in my pocket, cruising up and down those clear bins filled with the colorful Willy Wonka promise of sugar buzz, selecting my favorite sour belts, pixie sticks and gummy bears.

In those moments, my mind was worlds away from the handfuls of vitamins I had been forced to take morning, noon and night.

At 10 years old, I was diagnosed with epilepsy and taken to a holistic doctor who sent me home with bottles and bottles and bottles of pills. Tablets, capsules, gel caps, wafers referred to endearingly as “horse pills” cut into 4 pieces just to get down. Then there was the B-Complex which always seems to find a way back up the wrong direction and tasted like vomit-flavored Harry Potter jelly beans!

As a kid, I quickly learned to hate vitamins.

To this day, I still do.

But I know I have to take them. So sometimes I do… But mostly I don’t.

Sound familiar?

This is The Vitamin Problem.

Now don’t get me wrong! I’ve tried to be good. In my adult life, I again oscillated between choking down handfuls of pills and then swiftly quitting cold turkey.

You wouldn’t believe the amount of money I’ve wasted on vitamins that are to this day wasting valuable cupboard space in my apartment! The last venture was beginning of last year and totalled over $600 and approximately 25 bottles of supplements. It seems such a shame to throw them away. So there they sit, taunting me in my failure.

Who could blame me? The schedule was gruelling. There were supplements to be taken at least an hour before breakfast, with breakfast, 15 minutes before each meal, at lunch, at dinner, before bed, with food, without food, on an empty stomach…

Now I work from home and don’t have kids yet. I can’t imagine what it must be like for a working mother of 4 kids all with extracurricular activities to boot! That was part of why it must have been so hard for my mom.

My routine lasted all of 2 weeks. There’s money down the drain.

There has to be a better way.

So, flash forward 23 years and I’m standing in a convention hall filled with all the newest in vitamins and it feels a lot more like that candy store than the 10-years-old’s fistful of pills!

Let me tell you, new things are happening!

You’re likely familiar with vitamin gummies and Emergen-C packets. It’s nothing wholly new to the scene. But did you know that most vitamin gummies and Emergen-C is lousy with sugar and fructose! Some flavors of Emergen-C could compare more to vitamin-C-spiked Pixie Sticks!

They should also be free of artificial dyes, which have been linked to ADHD, neurological dysfunction and cancer!

I've been doing some digging and have found that is mostly NOT the case.

If you’re going to create vitamins, especially when marketed to children, well they just better be healthy, right?

So my mission? To find you, your kiddos and really myself vitamins and supplements that I’d love to take every single day but that would actually be healthy.

It was a lot harder than it looked! Just take a peek at this video I made during the process:

After 3 loooong days talking to dozens and dozens of companies, pouring over ingredient lists and grilling them on their processes, we are happy to say that we found several fantastic and delicious-tasting vitamins we are extremely excited about.

We can’t wait to share with you what we have coming.  Click here to sign up to be added to our list to find out when you can get your hands on them. (And check out our superfood powders in the meantime.)

Our mission is Making Families Healthy, Making Healthy Easy. What’s been done before just is not easy. We’re here to change that. We think it’s about time.

Whole Leaf Wheatgrass Powder vs. Wheatgrass Juice Powder
Whole Leaf Wheatgrass Powder vs. Wheatgrass Juice Powder

March 27, 2017

Wheatgrass is sold in many forms; from mini trays of the live seedlings to fresh juices and various wheatgrass powders. The internet is a daunting maze of conflicting information, making it discouraging to work out the differences between the biggest sellers of powdered wheatgrass.

The main argument that separates powdered whole leaf and powdered juice is mainly whether or not humans can digest cellulose. Some wheatgrass powders, such as Nurtured by Nature’s Organic Wheatgrass Powder, are specifically whole-leaf, retaining vegetable fiber as well as the many nutrients of evaporated juice.

Let’s break this down to better understand the anti-cellulose fad...
